Portsmouth Uses Strong 1st Period To Down Lady Pointers

SOUTH POINT — The Portsmouth Lady Trojans had 3 players reach double figures and limited South Point to just 7 field goals in the game to defeat the Lady Pointers 56-17 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday night.

Portsmouth senior guard Sienna Allen finished with 18 points to lead all scorers. Teammates Daysha Reid and Keke Woods both netted 12 points each in the win.

The Lady Trojans took early control of the game, outscoring South Point 17-2 in the opening frame.

During the period, Allen scored 11 points in the period, including a long-range 2-pointer in front of the South Point bench and a steal-drive-and layup to cap off the first.

Not to be outdone, Woods came up with a steal and showed some razzle-dazzle with a behind-the-back pass to Reid for a layup to give Portsmouth (12-0, 7-0 OVC) an early 6-2 lead.

But South Point (6-4, 4-4) would fight back in the second, as four players would score from the field. Jasmyn Jones would score 4 of South Point's 11 points in the quarter, Saratina Jackson and Molly Adams would both add a basket in the paint, and Leila Hall would hit a 3-pointer from the corner.

But the Trojans would outscore South Point 18-11 in the period and build up a 35-13 lead at the break.

Reid would lead Portsmouth in scoring during the second with 6 points, Allen added 5 more points to her total.

Woods would tally 6 more points in the third to help the Lady Trojans continue to build their lead and Savannah Cantrell contributed 4 points in the period.

Reid buried a 3-pointer in the third and one more in the fourth to help close out the win.

Adams led the Lady Pointers with 6 points on the night. Jackson and Jones each added 4 points, and Hall scored 3.
