Lady Pointers get key performances to beat Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH — Copley and Copley might sound like a law firm, but it was the partnership that helped give the South Point Lady Pointers a win.

Sisters Kota and Adyson Copley combined to go 7-for-7 with 4 doubles, a home run and 5 runs batted as the Lady Pointers beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 11-6 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Kota Copley — who also got the pitching win — was 4-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI while Adyson Copley went 3-3 with 2 doubles and a home run and a pair of RBI.

Kaylee Stidham also had a big game for the Lady Pointers as she went 2-5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Kyleigh Casters was 1-3 with an RBI and Rayden Yates was 1-4 with an RBI.

Kota Copley gave up 6 hits, 6 runs with only 2 earned, with 7 strikeouts and one walk in going the distance for the win.

South Point (8-4, 2-1) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning sparked by Stidham’s RBI double. Castle was hit by a pitch and Yates grounded out to drive in runs.

Adyson Copley hit a two-run homer in the second inning to make it 5-1.

Each team got a run in the fourth and it was 6-2 on a home run by Wampler-McKinley and then Portsmouth tied the game with 4 runs in the fifth as Bedard doubled home a run and Wampler-McKinley singled in a run.

But South Point answered with 5 runs in the seventh inning to get the win on 2-run doubles by Kota Copley and Stidham.

Evanie Wampler-McKinley was 2-4 with a solo home run and 3 RBI for Portsmouth (5-6, 0-4). Gigi Bedard was 1-3 with a double and 2 RBI, Madison Boren 2-4 and Caitlyn Galloway 1-3.
