GRAYSON, Ky. — The East Carter Lady Raiders had eight different batters collect hits and got a solid performance from Kadie Ramey to beat the South Point Lady Pointers 12-2 in 5 innings on Tuesday evening.
"We were a little sluggish," said South Point coach Robert Heaberlin. "It wasn't our best game but you'll have games like that. Once spring break is over and we get back into a routine and play better against Coal Grove we can right the ship."
South Point took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Raygen Yates singled up the middle to score Adyson Copley from second.
However the Lady Raiders put together a 2-out rally to take the lead in the bottom of the frame, with Rogers hitting a triple to score a run and later scoring on a passed ball.
The Lady Raiders added another run in the second when Ramey led off with a single. Then Jenna Goble came in as a courtesy runner and stole second. Sydnee Yates followed with a base hit to score Goble and make the score 3-1 after two innings.
The Lady Pointers cut the deficit back down to one run in their next at bat. With one out, Adyson Copley reached base on an error and stole second. Then with two outs, Kyleigh Castle hit a fly ball into left that fell in for a base hit to score Copley.
However, the Lady Raiders would put together a huge scoring rally in the bottom of the third to blow the game wide open.
Consecutive base hits from Brynlee Walker, Allison Felty and Rogers loaded up the bases. Then a fielding error allowed two runs to score.
Kota Copley would battle back from the circle to get two outs with a strikeout and a pop out.
But another single from Yates scored a run and Laken Knipp singled in a pair of runs to run the score to 8-2 and never looked back.
The Lady Pointers scratched out 6 hits, with both Kyleigh Castle and Raygen Yates had a hit and an RBI. Adyson Copley had two hits. Kota Copley and Natilyn Spears each had a hit.
Kota Copley took the loss for the Lady Pointers but still struck out 6 batters in four innings of work. Chloe West came on in the fifth in relief to finish out the game.
East Carter had 15 hits in the game and were led by Rogers who went 3-4 with a double, a triple and two RBI and Shelby Felty had a double and three RBI. Knipp went 2-3 with a double and two RBI. Yates went 2-3 with two RBI. Allison Felty went 2-4 with a double. Kadie Ramey went 2-2 with two RBI. Walker collected a pair of hits and Abby Boggs had a hit.
Ramey picked up the win, allowing one earned run on 6 hits and struck out 5 batters while walking just one batter.
Despite the loss, Heaberlin had a positive outlook on getting good game experience against good competition.
"This is why we scheduled the way we did. We wanted to front-load it so we could be ready for OVC play."
