Multi-goal game from Neal leads Flyers win over Tigers

NEW BOSTON — Well, it wasn’t anything like John Stockton and Karl Malone, but the St. Joseph Flyers version of assists man and scorer was just as productive.

Brayden Neal racked up a haul and Jack Whaley had 3 of the assists on Neal’s 4 goals as the Flyers blanked the New Boston Tigers 9-0 in a Southern Ohio Conference-1 soccer game on Thursday.

Mason Weber and Carson Lyons also had good games with a pair of goals each and Lyons chipped in an assist on one of Weber’s goals.

Neal scored on a header off a corner kick assist from Whaley with 35:38 on the first half clock.

Lyons then got an unassisted goal off a rebound with 30:33 left in the quarter.

Weber scored his own unassisted goal off a rebound and it was 3-0 with 5:11 on the clock.

Neal beat the clock as he scored with one second left off a through ball assist from Gus Listerman.

Neal got a goal off a crossing pass from Whaley with 37:21 on the second half clock and it was 5-0.

Neal then scored his fourth goal in the box off a long pass from near midfield by Whaley with 31:05 to play.

Weber scored off of a short pass in the box off Lyons with 27:25 to play.

Lyons then scored his own goal off the head pass by Beckham Waginger with 17:40 to play.

The final score was Barrett Waginger on a long range goal off a throw from Eli Whaley.

Flyers’ goalkeeper Beckham Waginger got the win as he had 4 saves while Peyton Ford turned back 3 shots for saves.

Goalkeepers Cam Voiers had 9 saves and Anson Bradley 3 saves for New Boston (4-3, 0-2).

On Tuesday, the Flyers will visit Lucasville Valley in a pivotal SOC game at 6 p.m.
