Lyons' hat trick headlines Flyers win over Pointers

IRONTON — The St. Joseph Flyers got off on the wrong foot but it proved to be the right move.
Sophomore Sophia Rowe got an unassisted goal with her left foot off a South Point deflection and the Flyers went on to beat the Pointers 9-1 in a non-league game on Thursday.
Carson Lyons had a hat trick, Brayden Neal had two goals and brothers Beckham and Barrett Waginger scored, and Jack Whaley had a goal and four assists as the Flyers evened their record at 2-2.
Neal scored at the 33:18 mark of the first half off a short crossing assist by Barrett Waginger.
Lyons then shot a laser from 20 yards out off an assist from Barrett Waginger and it was 3-0 with 22:20 on the clock.
Lyons scored with 38:12 in the half thanks to a nice crossing assist from Whaley and it was 4-0.
Neal got an unassisted rebound goal to begin the second half and it was 5-0 with 34:10 on the clock.
Lyons scored off a corner kick assist from Whaley at the 26:40 mark and then Barrett Waginger scored off a long through ball assist from Whaley at the 21:10 mark and Beckham Wagigner followed 1:50 later with a header off a crossing assist from Whaley.
The Pointers (2-3) scored when Israel Schneider got an unassisted goal with 16:9 to play
Beckham Waginger started as the goalkeeper and did not allow a goal and did not have a save. Peyton Ford gave up the one goal but had 4 saves.
The Flyers had 31 shots with 20 on goal while South Point had 8 shots with 5 on goal.
St. Joseph had 6 corner kicks and 6 fouls. South Point had 3 corner kicks and 3 fouls.
St. Joseph hosts Western at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
