7 different Flyers net goals in win over Western

IRONTON — Everybody was getting in on the act.


Seven different players scored including Carson Lyons who had a haul as the St. Joseph Flyers routed the Western Indians 11-1 in a Southern Ohio Conference-1 soccer game.


Besides Lyons’ four goals, Sophia Rowe, Blake Medinger, Mason Weber, Beckham Waginger, Brayden Neal and Jack Whaley all scored goals.


St. Joseph (3-2, 1-0) got on the board first at the 36:03 mark when Lyons got the first of his four goals on an unassisted shot off a turnover in the box.


Medinger — playing midfield — gave a pass to Lyons who scored with 14:01 left in the first half and the lead was 2-0.


Sophia Rowe scored off a crossing pass from Whaley with 11:55 on the clock and it was quickly 3-0.


Lyons scored again off an assist from around the center stripe from Medinger and it was 4-0 with 6:09 showing on the clock.


Medinger then got his own goal with a header  off a corner kick from Whaley at the 4:59 mark.


Bruno Miralles scored unassisted at the 4:48 mark to give Western (2-3-1, 0-1) its only goal and it was- 5-1.


The Flyers answered with 1:47 left in the half as Neal scored on a header off a corner kick from Rowe.


Lyons scored the Flyers’ first goal of the second half with 38:59 on the clock on a laser beam goal off a crossing feed assist from Barrett Waginger.

Medinger scored an unassisted goal off a rebound at the 35:20 mark and the lead was 8-1.


Weber scored off a short touch pass from Neal with 34:30 left in the game and it was 9-1.


Beckham Waginger’s goal off a crossing pass from the right side by his brother Barrett Waginger with 24:01 on the clock.


Whaley finished off the scoring with a goal off a through ball assist by Eli Whaley with 6:08 to play.


Flyers’ goalkeeper Beckham Waginger had four saves and Peyton Ford had two saves and allowed the only goal.


St. Joseph visits New Boston at 7 p.m. on Thursday in an SOC game.
