Flyers knock off Dragons for first win of 2025

IRONTON — Beckham Waginger took a day off from being the goalkeeper to play in the field. Peyton Ford took advantage of the move to get his first win.

With Waginger in the field, Ford had 5 saves as the St. Joseph Flyers downed the Fairland Dragons 9-1 in a non-league game on Monday.

Waginger scored the Flyers first goal on a header with an assist from his brother Barrett Waginger using a cross pass with 35:08 on the first half clock.

The Flyers got a point on an own goal off a Fairland defender and it was 2-0.

Mason Weber scored at the 14:34 mark on a putback rebound goal and then scored with just 2:07 left in the half with an assist from Carson Lyons.

Lyons started the scoring in the second half getting a cross pass from Texas Jack Whaley and it was 5-0 at the 37:31 mark.

Eli Whaley scored an unassisted goal on a rebound putback with 25:16 on the clock

Fairland (0-4) got the scoreboard 3 minutes last on an unassisted rebound goal by Josh Hunt.

Lyons scored his second goal with another assist from Texas Jack Whaley and it was 7-1 with 20:12 to go.

Andy Listerman’s goal off a cross pass from Weber put the lead at 8-1 with 14:48 left and the final goal of the game on an unassisted rebound by Sophia Rowe with only one second on the clock.

The Flyers took 31 shots with 22 on goal The had 13 corner kicks and 6 fouls.

Fairland took 9 shots with 6 on goal, had 3 corner kicks and 2 fouls.

St. Joseph (1-2) played South Point on Thursday and will host Western at 5:3.m. on Tuesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
