SOUTH POINT — No matter how close the Pointers got to scoring, they found a way to keep from reaching their goal.

South Point was frustrated several times as they got near the end zone as the Pointers lost 13-6 to the Beaver Eastern Eagles on Friday in the season opener.

A good punt return put the Eagles in good field position as they went 43 yards in 6 plays capped by quarterback Eric Manley’s one-yard plunge. Grant Havens’ kick made it 7-0 with 1:58 left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Eagles went 79 yards in 9 plays as Manley hit Boston Webb with a 9-yard scoring strike with 6:04 left in the half.

The Pointers drove to the Eagles 23 but ran out of time and the Eagles kept their 13-0 lead at the half.

South Point reached the Eagles 12-yard line but Trey Kelly intercepted a pass as Pointers’ quarterback Ethan Hall was forced to throw on the run.

But on their next possession, the Pointers went 73 yards in 9 plays with Hunt making a 16-yard key run and then he set up the score with a 45-yard scramble.

Isaiah Traylor ran 3 yards for the score with 10:51 to play and it was 13-6. The conversion kick was blocked.

The Pointers appeared to have the Eagles final possession stopped to give them one last chance, a pass breakup turned into a holding call and Eastern was able to run out the clock.

The Pointers had 218 total yards with Hunt going 11-of-28 passing for 87 yards and he also ran 9 times for 93 yards.  Elye Patterson caught 6 passes for 47 yards.

The Eagles had 291 total yards as Montgomery was the workhorse with 27 carries for 143 yards. Manley ran 12 times for 30 yards and a score while completing 10-of-24  passes for 126 yards. Webb had 4 catches for 64 yards and a score.

The Pointers visited Racine Southern on Friday.
