Clutch Performances Key Lady Hornets Win Over Ashland

COAL GROVE — It was dominating pitching and clutch hitting.
Abbie Deeds racked up 18 strikeouts and 6 different batters got hits as the Coal Grove Lady Hornets beat the Ashland Kittens 8-6 on Thursday.
Deeds gave up 8 hits but only one of the 6 runs was earned. She walked just one batter.
Jenna Delaney belted a two-out solo home run as Ashland took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Coal Grove erupted for 5 runs in the third inning to take the lead for good.
With one out, Kasey Vanderhoof walked, Deeds singled, Shay Collins reached on a fielder’s choice, Rylee Black and Kendall Taylor each drew a two-out walk and Rylee Bare capped the rally with a base hit.
The Lady Hornets extended the lead to 8-1 in the fourth inning.
Mia Haynes singled, Deeds walked, Collins sacrificed the runners up and Izzy Kitts singled home both runners.
Rylee Black singled and an outfield error scored the final run.
With 2 outs, Ashland got singles by Aubrey Foster and Aniyah Caldwell singled and an error scored a run. A walk and an error scored a run and Delaney belted a 3-run home run to make it 8-6.
But Deeds struck out the next batter to end the game.
Kitts and Taylor each went 1-2 with 2 RBI while Bare was 1-3 with 2 RBI.
