SEAMAN — For Saint Joseph, this week might have seemed to take extra longer than usual.

After playing 11 innings on Monday, the Flyers capped off the week with another extra inning game and beat the North Adams Green Devils 2-1 in nine innings on Friday.

Pitching dominated much of the game for both teams.

Barrett Waginger provided another solid pitching performance for the Flyers, going nine innings on the mound and giving up four hits, a walk and striking out six batters. The lone run by the Green Devils was an unearned run.

North Adams kept pace with Cooper Roush pitching a complete game. The senior gave struck out five batters while giving up two earned runs on nine hits.

"Barrett (Waginger) did a phenomenal job on the mound and the defense was much better today," said Flyers coach Nick Medinger. "Our guys got the bat on the ball most of the day. Finally in the ninth we strung together some hits that weren't right at their guys and got a run across to win it."

The Flyers had nine hits for the game, with Carson Lyons going 2-of-4 with an RBI and Brayden Neal going 2-4. Evan Aldridge had a hit and an RBI. Barrett Waginger, Beckham Waginger, Mason Weber and Blake Medinger each had a hit.

North Adams was led by Trace Evans who went 2-3 and both Roush and Bronson Dean had a hit.

St. Joseph (15-7) jumped out in front in the first inning when Waginger scored on a ground out by Lyons.

The Green Devils (10-14) tied the game up just an inning later.

Evans singled and later advanced to third on a passed ball and a ground out. With two outs, Hupp connected on a 1-0 pitch that got through into the outfield and scored Evans to make the score 1-all.

Hits and base runners would become a premium from that point on, as neither team threatened to score until the bottom of the seventh.

Back-to-back singles from Roush and Evans with one out put runners on first and second.

However, Waginger would get Raines to hit a grounder back up the middle to Lyons who would step on second and throw to first for the double play to end the threat and head into extra innings.

The game would move into the top of the ninth where the Flyers would finally break the tie.

A one-out single from Lyons got things started, who later stole second to get into scoring position. Then with two outs, Aldridge hit a flyball over the centerfielders' head for an RBI single to make it 2-1.

Waginger and the defense slammed the door on any hopes of a miracle for North Adams, as the freshman hurler needed just 8 pitches to retire all three batters he faced and pick up the win.
