Vikings get key pitching in win over Dragons; Take doubleheader against Western

AID — The Fairland Dragons pushed across a run in the 8th inning to edge the Symmes Valley Vikings 2-1 on Tuesday.
The game was a pitching duel between the Dragons’ Josh Gillespie and Nolan Fleming and the Vikings’ Tanner Corn and Gradee Holland.
Fleming went the final 2 innings to get the win as he gave up one hit. Gillespie went the first 6 innings and allowed 3 hits, one earned run with 11 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Corn went 7 innings striking out 12, walked 2 and he gave up 6 hits and 2 runs with one earned, Holland went one inning and did not allow a baserunner.
Gillespie was 2-3 and Cyrus Cummings 2-4 with an RBI to pace Fairland (9-13). Fleming was 1-3 with an RBI and Mack Clark 1-3.
Corn was 1-2, Ben Hutchison 1-3, Andy Strow 1-4, Tanner Thompson 1-4 with a double, and Holland had an RBI for Symmes Valley (11-10).

AID — In yet another pitchers’ duel, Wellston Golden Rockets’ Braxton Ingalls managed to top the Symmes Valley Vikings and pitcher Tanner Thompson 3-1 in 8 innings.
Ingalls went the distance as he gave up just 3 hits, struck out 16 and walked 5. The only run was earned.
Thompson went the first 7 innings before leaving due to pitch count rules. He gave up only 4 hits, 3 earned runs with 8 strikeouts and 5 walks.
Andy Strow finished and allowed one hit with one strikeout in one inning of work.
Wellston (14-10) got 2 runs in the top of the 8th inning to get the win.
Dalton Barnett was 2-4 with an RBI, Elijah Lung 1-2 with 2 RBI, and both Carson McCorkle and Aiden Fenwick were 1-4 for the Rockets.
The Vikings’ Tanner Corn had all 3 hits including 2 doubles and he drove in the only run.

AID — The Symmes Valley Vikings locked down a share of the Southern Ohio Conference-2 title with a sweep of the Western Indians on Friday, 16-0 and 13-3.
Symmes Valley finishes the conference play 9-1 and tied with Northwest.
In the first game, the Vikings erupted for 10 runs in the first inning as they cruised to the 5-inning run rule win.
Tanner Corn struck out 14 and did not walk a batter as he threw a one-hitter in the 16-0 win. He also went 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI.
Tanner Thompson went 2-2 with a triple and 6 runs batted in led the offense. Andy Strow was 3-3 with 2 RBI, Aydan Freeman 2-2 with 3 RBI, Mason Campbell 1-2 with a triple and Carson Brammer 1-3 with an RBI.
Chase Ware had the only hit for Western (2-21, 0-10).

Gradee Holland went the first 5 innings to get the win while Carson Brammer worked the final inning. Brammer gave up 8 hits, 3 unearned runs with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks. Brammer gave up a hit, struck out 2 and did not walk a batter.
Tanner Corn was 2-4 with a triple and 3 RBI with Andy Strow was 2-5 with a triple and 2 RBI to pace the offense. Aydan Freeman was 2-4, Ben Hutchison 2-4 with an RBI, Tanner Thompson 2-4 with a triple and 3 RBI, and both Carson Brammer and Holland were 1-3.
