Lady Vikings sweep Western to make it 6 consecutive wins

LATHAM — Just like the Doublemint chewing gum commercial sings, double your pleasure, double your fun.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings did just that on Thursday with a doubleheader sweep of the Western Lady Indians in a Southern Ohio Conference 2 matchup.

Symmes Valley (11-2, 4-0) won the first game 7-0 as Addy Hawk came on in relief in the second inning and pitched hitless ball for four innings as she struck out eight with no walks.

Marley Ferguson was 2-3 with a double and two runs batted in, Kaycee Thompson was 1-3 with a two-run homer, Maci Blank and Addi Ridenour each went 1-1 with Ridenour getting an RBI, and Hawk was 1-2 with an RBI.

Starting pitcher McKenzie Smith gave up five hits, three earned runs, struck out three and walked three for Western (0-8, 0-4).

In the second game, the Lady Vikings combined 10 hits with six errors to rout Western 15-0.

Hawk pitched the second game and got the win and the Lady Vikings erupted for 10 runs in the first inning.

Hawk allowed just two hits, struck out three with no walks.
