Anson's 24 aids Lady Hornets in beating Lady Pointers, stay undefeated

SOUTH POINT — Jenna Anson had a career high and it kept the Coal Grove Lady Hornets flying high.

Anson scored a career-high 24 points — 19 in the first half — as the Lady Hornets remained unbeaten with a 49-37 Ohio Valley Conference win over the South Point Lady Pointers on Friday.

“Jenna had a great first half and became the focus of their defense in the second half,” said Lady Hornets coach Nick Miller.

“Kendall (Taylor) has been battling some physical issues and with her out of the game most of the fourth quarter they made a little comeback and we didn’t take care of things the way we wanted.”

Anson scored 11 points in the first quarter as the Lady Hornets took an 18-10 lead.

Samiya Bradburn scored 7 points for the Lady Pointers.

In the second quarter, Anson scored 8 points while Emma Lively added a 3-pointer as the lead grew to 29-19 at the break.

Molly Adams scored all 4 of her points including a 3-pointer for the Lady Pointers while Peyton Williamson had 3 points and Amaya Ellis added a basket.

Coal Grove outscored South Point 11-3 in the third quarter and pulled away to a 40-22 lead as Anson had 5 points while Kendall Taylor, Karli Shore and Izzy Kitts each added baskets.

Williamson sank 3 foul shots for the Lady Pointers total.

Bradburn hit a 3-pointer and scored 6 points and Williams added 5 points as South Point tried to rally in the fourth quarter by outscoring Coal Grove 15-9.

But Lively had 6 points to limit the damage.

“We’ll take the win, but we want to play cleaner basketball and finish the game better than we did,” said Miller.

Lively finished with 12 points for Coal Grove (4-0, 2-0).

Bradburn had 13 points and Williamson 11 to pace South Point (0-3, 0-2).
