Ferguson's grand slam performance leads Lady Tigers over Lady Pointers

IRONTON — Aubrey Ferguson had a grand slamming day.
Ferguson went 3-for-5 with a grand slam home run, a double and 8 runs batted in as the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers beat the South Point Lady Pointers 15-5 on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Ironton (11-3, 7-2) collected 14 hits with Layla Townsend going 2-4, Ava Bihl 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI, Aubry Shavers 2-3 with an RBI, Khamil Martin 1-2 with a double and 2 RBI, Braegan Thomas 1-3 with a double, Miley Bias 1-2, Ryleigh Kouns 1-3 and Kenley Neal 1-4.
Ferguson gave Ironton a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single.
South Point came back to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the second when Josie Kidd belted a solo home run and Kota Copley had a 2-run double.
But Ironton came back with 3 runs of its own in the bottom of the inning when Khamil Martin doubled home 2 runs and Ferguson grounded out scoring a run.
Jaidyn Malone hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning to tie the game only to have Ironton erupt for 6 runs on 4 hits in the bottom of the frame keyed by Ferguson’s grand slam home run.
Bihl got the win as she gave up 7 hits, 4 earned runs with 9 strikeouts and one walk.
South Point (9-4, 5-2) was led by Saratina Jackson who was 2-3 and Copley who was 3-4 with a a double and 2 RBI. Kidd 1-1 with the home run, and Addison Copley 1-2 with an RBI.
