Vikings hold off late rally from Rebels for key league win

CROWN CITY — Wilson Phillips sang “Hold on for one more day.” The Symmes Valley Vikings had to hold on for one more inning.
The Vikings survived a big seventh inning rally to edge the South Gallia Rebels 9-7 in a Southern Ohio Conference-2 game on Thursday.
The Vikings (6-7, 6-1) scored twice in the top of the seventh to take a comfortable 9-2 lead. But the Rebels (4-8, 3-6) rallied in the bottom of the inning for 5 runs with the aid of some Symmes Valley errors.
Gradee Holland went 6.1 innings for the win as he gave up 6 hits, 6 runs of which 4 were earned, struck out 11 and walked 5.
Mason Campbell came on to get the save as he gave up one hit, one unearned run and had a strikeout.
Symmes Valley outhit the Rebels 12-8 with Andy Strow going 3-4 with a double and 3 runs batted in while Tanner Corn was 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI and Carson Brammer 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Others for the Vikings were Mason Campbell 2-4 with a double, Jason Gates was 1-2 with a double and an RBI, Ben Hutchison 1-3 and Tanner Thompson 1-4.
