SCIOTOVILLE — Whether by land, air or defense, the Symmes Valley Vikings scored in rapid succession to blank the Sciotoville East Tartans 49-0 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Friday night.

Symmes Valley (8-0, 3-0 SOC 1) scored all of its points in the first quarter. The scoring onslaught included 3 scores in a 30 second span.

"You always worry about your teams' focus for games' like this, but I felt our kids did a great job all week of dialing in and taking care of business tonight," said Symmes Valley head coach Ben Ferguson.

Quarterback Bronx Carpenter completed all 7 of his pass attempts, four of those coming on the opening drive. Carpenter's final pass on the drive was two Andrew Isaacs on a short crossing route for a 24-yard score.

Carpenter's next pass would be a swing pass to Asher Maynard that Maynard took up the sidelines for 20 yards to pay dirt to make it 14-0.

Maynard scored on the ground on the Vikings' next offensive play, taking a handoff from the 9-yard line and going in for his final score of the night at the 7:34 mark of the quarter.

The defense got into the scoring act on the next two plays from scrimmage. Beckem Roth got into the act, catching an overthrown pass in the flats and going 14 yards in the other direction for a interception return.

Then Gradee Holland came up with a tip-drill interception on East's next play from scrimmage, and found nothing but green grass in front of him for a 38-yard interception return to make it 36-0 following Miguel Ferreria's extra point.

"It was great to see us get some of the defensive guys get a score. It definitely helps with the turnover margin," said Ferguson.

Aydan Freeman rumbled in with a 33-yarder that included Freeman running over a defender along the sideline to make it 42-0 with 3:36 remaining.

Following a bad snap on a punt attempt from East, Carpenter and Jackson Fields would close out the scoring on the night on the Vikings' next offensive play.

Fields caught a slant over the middle from Carpenter for an 8-yard score to round out the final score.

East (2-6) appeared they would break the shutout in the second half after getting a 44-yard kickoff return by Tanner Blackburn to put the ball on the Viking 44.

The Tartans drove to the Viking 13 in seven plays, but faced a fourth down after Tanner Baughman was forced out of bounds just short of the first down by Carson Brammer and JR Turner.

The defense held on fourth down when East's pass attempt fell incomplete.

Symmes Valley will be on the road again on Friday against the Notre Dame Titans. East plays at Green on Thursday.
