Vikings pick up two more wins; stay atop SOC-II standings

AID — The Symmes Valley Vikings came into this week atop the Southern Ohio Conference Division 2 standings.


After two games this week, the Vikings they’re still in first place.


The Vikings left little doubt about their position with a 13-2 win over Beaver Eastern Eagles on Monday and they followed that with a 23-2 pounding of the South Gallia Rebels.


The Vikings (4-5, 4-0) used the six-hit pitching of Gradee Holland and a 17-hit attack to beat Eastern.


Holland struck out six, walked two and only gave up one earned run


Andy Strow was 4-4 to lead the offense. Tanner Thompson was 2-3 with three RBI, Tanner Corn 3-4 with a double and four RBI, Carson Brammer 1-3 with an RBI, Chase Adkins 1-2with three RBI, Mason Campbell and Jaxon Gates each 1-1, Aydan Freeman 2-2 with an RBi and Holland was 2-3 with an RBI.


Eastern (3-7, 2-3) hitting had Cade Leist and Bradyn Riley 1-1, Miles Thompson 2-2 and Eric Manley 2-3. All six hits were singles.


On Wednesday, four Viking pitchers combined to limit the Rebels to five hits.


Corn started and got the win with two innings of work. He gave up two hits, one unearned run and had four strikeouts.


Brammer worked 1.2 innings with two hits, one earned run with four strikeouts and three walks. Ashton Gothard faced one batter and got a strikeout, and Campbell worked the final inning giving up a hit with two strikeouts and a walk.


The Vikings pounded out 14 hits to go with seven South Gallia errors to score 23 runs including 10 in the first inning and 10 more in the second inning.


Thompson was 3-3 with a double and two RBI, Strow 1-4 with a double and two RBI, Corn 2-4 with a double and five RBI, Brammer 2-4 and two RBI, Adkins 1-2 with an RBI, Campbell 2-3 and two RBI, Freeman 2-3 and three RBI, Gates 1-1, Ben Hutchinson had an RBI, and Holland was 1-3.


Garrett Gibson was 1-1 with an RBI and Hayden Kemp 1-2 for the Rebels (2-5.2-3).
