FRANKLIN FURNACE — The Green Bobcats must like pitchers’ duels. And what they like even better is they keep winning them.
Behind the three-hit pitching of Gabe Blevins, the Bobcats blanked the Portsmouth Trojans 1-0 on Thursday.
Green has now won three games this season by the score of 1-0 along with a 4-0 win.
Blevins struck out six and walked only one to get the complete game win. Trevin Brooks was almost as strong as he gave up four hits, an earned run with eight strikeouts and three walks.
Green (10-0) scored the game’s only run in the sixth inning.
With one out, Mason Neal walked and Riddick Jenkins singled. An error on the play put runners at second and third. Blevins followed with a base hit to score Neal.
Portsmouth (6-5) threatened in the third inning with one out.
Logan Adkins singled, stole second and went to third on an error. Jacob Roth hit a ground ball to third base and threw out Adkins trying to score.
Blevins got the next batter to pop out to second base and end the inning,
The Trojans also threatened in the second when Brooks walked, Braxton Carr sacrificed him to second and a ground out sent Brooks to third. But Blevins struck out the next batter to end the inning.
Carr singled with two outs in the seventh and he stole second. Again, Blevins got a pop out to end the threat and the game.
Green’s only other real threat was in the second when Kase McIntyre was hit by a pitch with two outs, went to second and third on wild pitches, and, after a walk to Neal, Brooks struck out the next batter to end the inning.
Jon Knapp and Conner Blanton were 1-2 and Jenkins and Blevins each went 1-3 for Green.
Carr and Adkins were 1-2 and Landon Malone 1-3 for Portsmouth.
