Huge 1st quarter propels Lady Dragons past Lady Hornets

COAL GROVE — The Fairland Lady Dragons got all they needed to start the game.

Fairland jumped out to a 30-7 first quarter lead and went on to beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 65-22 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.

Bailey Russell buried a pair of 3-pointers as she scored 14 while Addison Godby added 6 points as Fairland bolted to a 30-7 first quarter lead.

The Lady Dragons opened up a 47-10 halftime lead as both Stella Whitley and Russell hit 3-pointers and scored 5 points.

The scoring slowed in the second half as the backups began to get playing time.

Addyson Cornell had a 3-pointer as she scored 5 points and Fairland extended its lead to 57-14.

Lola Donahue had 4 points for Fairland as each team scored 8 points in the fourth quarter.

Palin Hunter and Rebekah Dome scored 4 each for Coal Grove’s total.

Russell led all scorers with 21 points.  Isa Taliaferro and Addyson Cornell added 9 points each.

Godby had 7 rebounds and 5 assists while Russell and Cornell each grabbed 7 rebounds.
