Fransen scores career-high as Dragons burn Trojans in shootout

PROCTORVILLE — Maybe Fransen is short for Frankenstein because Cliff Fransen had a monster game.

Fransen scored a career-high 37 points, yanked down 14 rebounds and had 5 assists as the Fairland Dragons rolled to a 92-70 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Portsmouth Trojans on Monday.

Fransen and Trevor Lochow combined for 14 as each made two 3-pointers and Kiyan Page had 5 points including a 3-pointer as Fairland took a 23-18 first quarter lead.

Daequan Woods scored 6 points and Connie Thomas had a pair of 3-pointers for the Trojans.

Fransen got red-hot in the second quarter as he drilled a pair of 3-pointers as he scored 17 points and the lead jumped to 49-32 at the half.

Thomas hit another 3-pointer and had 7 points in the second quarter for Portsmouth.

The Trojans cut the deficit to 65-52 as Thomas duplicated his second quarter performance with Olynshay McKinley and Woods scoring 4 each.

Gerald Love knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points while Fransen had 4 points and Owen Burcham hit a trifecta for the Dragons.

But the Dragons opened up the lead again in the fourth quarter as Love hit a pair of triples and two technical fouls, Fransen had 8 points and Burcham hit a trey as he scored 7 points.

Woods had a triple and scored 10 of the Trojans 18 points in the quarter.

Love finished with 16 points, Burcham added 13 points and Maddox Gue had 5 rebounds, 5 assists and a pair of steals for Fairland (4-1, 2-0).

Thomas scored 25 points and Woods 24 points to pace the Trojans (3-1, 1-1).
