Dragons shake off slows start to take down Hornets

PROCTORVILLE — It took a while for Trevor Lochow and the Fairland Dragons to warm up, but once they did, they were cooking.
Fairland shook off a slow start and found its shooting touch to beat the Coal Grove Hornets 65-42 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
The game was scoreless until Trevor Lochow hit a 3-pointer with 5:39 on the first quarter clock. That shot ignited a 10-0 run that finally ended on a 3-pointer by the Hornets' Bronson Guy with 1:09 left in the quarter.
Leading 13-3 heading into the second quarter, Lochow began to heat it up from long range. His 3-pointers at the 7:43 mark made it 16-3. Guy had a triple and Caden Turner made a foul shot as Coal Grove got within 16-7, but Lochow hit from deep again. James Dome had a layup for the Hornets only to have Lochow answer with a triple and it was 22-9.
Fairland (7-3, 4-2) took a 29-16 lead into the locker room and then came out and outscored the cold-shooting Hornets 18-8 to build a 47-224 lead.
Cliff Fransen had 5 points including 3 of 3 at the foul line, and both Gerald Love and Lochow scored 5 points including 3-pointers.
Each team scored 18 points in the fourth quarter as Turner and Dome combined for 9 points while seven different players scored for the Dragons.
Lochow finished with 24 points to lead all scorers. Fransen had 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists.
Turner had 15 points and Dome 12 to pace the Hornets (5-7, 1-5).
