Panthers Keep Rolling Along In Win Column

CHESAPEAKE — Like Ol’ Man River, the Chesapeake Panthers just keep rollin’ along.

The Panthers made it 9 wins in 9 games as they toppled the Coal Grove Hornets 72-43 on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Chesapeake is now 5-0 in the OVC, one-half game ahead of Fairland. Coal Grove slips to 4-4 and 1-3.

Maddox Kazee and Kaden Perkins combined for 46 points to lead the Panthers. Kazee scored 26 points and Perkins 22.

Noah Holmes scored 11 points to pace Coal Grove.

Kazee scored 13 points in the first quarter including a pair of 3-pointers as Chesapeake raced to a 19-6 lead.

Bradley Klaiber, Camryn Chaffins and Jake Brammer had baskets for Coal Grove’s total.

Kaden Perkins scored 5 points and Kazee 4 as the Panthers extended the lead to 33-16 at the half.

Holmes scored 4 points for the Hornets as 4 different players scored.

Perkins had the hot hand in the third quarter as he hit a 3-pointer and scored 9 points, Kazee had 5 points and Ethan Kerns knocked down a 3-pointer.

Owen Johnson caught fire for the Hornets with a 3-pointer as he scored all 9 points of his in the quarter. Holmes added 5 points including a 3-pointer.

Perkins continued his scoring in the fourth quarter with 8 points while Philip Thacker added 4 points.

Brammer scored 4 points as 4 different players scored for Coal Grove in the fourth quarter.

The Panthers will face a big test on Monday when they visit Ironton. They will play Franklin Monroe on Saturday in the Harvest Prep Classic.

The Hornets will host Rock Hill on Monday in an OVC game.
