Lady Hornets Pluck Lady Eagles

COAL GROVE — It goes without saying that there were plenty of players involved in the Coal Grove Lady Hornets’ 47-10 win over the Fairview Lady Eagles on Saturday.

The Lady Hornets were led by Emma Lively with 17 points and Jenna Anson with 14.

Lady Hornets coach Nick Miller praised his two scorers but noted some other performances that were important contributors.

“Kendall Taylor played a great defensive game and had several assists,” said Miller. “Abbie Deeds saw her first action of the season following an off-season surgery and played well. We were all excited to see her play.”

Lively and Anson scored 6 points each as Coal Grove (3-5) took a 14-4 first quarter lead.

Anson had 4 points while Deeds, Lively and Kendall Taylor all hit 3-pointers as the lead grew to 27-6 at the half.

Lively made a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points with Anson adding 4 points and it was 41-8 at the end of the third quarter.

Kasey Vanderhoof, Riann Best and Sophie Short all had baskets for Coal Grove in the fourth quarter.
