Lady Dragons Hang On To Edge Wheeling Park

MARIETTA — The Fairland Lady Dragons just had to make it interesting.

After methodically building an 11-point lead, Fairland withstood a furious fourth quarter comeback to edge the Wheeling Park Lady Patriots 49-47 on Saturday in the River City Classic at Marietta College.

The game started slow as Fairland took a 9-6 first quarter lead. Kamryn Barnitz hit a 3-pointer as four different Lady Dragons scored.

Alexis Bordas had 4 points and Hailey Downer a basket for the Lady Patriots (5-2).

The Lady Dragons extended their lead to 24-16 at the half as Addison Godby scored 7 points and Ava Lewis hit a trey and scored 7.

Bordas hit a 3-pointer and scored 8 points in the quarter.

Fairland continued to add to its lead in the third quarter as Russell made a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points to make it 36-25.

Bordas had 5 points and Allena Dalton 4 to account for the Lady Patriots scoring in the quarter.

But in the fourth quarter, Bordas and Maggie Hupp rallied Wheeling Park as they combined for 20 points

Bordas drained three 3-pointers and scored 13 points with Hupp hitting a trey and scoring 7 points. 

Barnitz made another 3-pointer and scored 5 points while Godby scored 4 more to help the Lady Dragons hang on for the win.

Fairland (9-1) had three players in double figures as Russell scored 14, Godby 13 and Barnitz 11.

Isa Taliferro grabbed 7 rebounds and Russell 6. Godby had 4 assists and Layne 3 with Russell also getting 3 steals.

Bordas had a game-high 30 points
