Hot-shooting Dragons burn up nets, advance to district semis

PROCTORVILLE — The late, great Jerry Reed once sang, “When you’re hot, you’re hot.”

The Fairland Dragons weren’t just hot. They were sizzling.

The Dragons were 33 of 47 from the field for 70 percent including 11 of 25 from the 3-point line for 44 percent as they beat the South Point Pointers 63-35 on Tuesday in the Division 5 district quarterfinals.

The Dragons (12-8) will play Wheelersburg at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Ohio University’s Convocation Center in the district semifinals.

Four different players hit 3-points in the first quarter as Fairland took an 18-9.

Trevor Lochow hit two 3-pointers and scored 8 p points and Cliff Fransen had 7 points as Fairland opened up a 38-20 halftime cushion.

Davon Lewis scored 7 points in the second quarter for South Point (9-15).

The Dragons outscored the Pointers 15-4 in the third quarter and extended the lead to 53-24.

Kiyan Page had 5 points  and Stephen Jones scored 4 more for the Dragons. Gerald Love and Page each hit 3-pointers.

Lochow had 16 points to lead three players in double figures. Fransen had 14 points and 13 rebounds while Page added 10 points.

Lewis led the Pointers with 12.
