Lady Bobcats Snap Notre Dame's SOC Win Streak

FRANKLIN FURNACE — The end.

Portsmouth Notre Dame saw its Southern Ohio Conference winning streak come to an end on Thursday as the Green Lady Bobcats beat the Lady Titans 57-54.

Green’s win snapped the Lady Titans SOC winning streak at 126 straight. The state record is 141 held by Columbus Africentric.

The Lady Bobcats had to withstand a strong Notre Dame fourth quarter rally for the win.

Green (12-1, 2-0) took a 16-4 first quarter lead as Matti Hayslip hit a pair of 3-pointers and Addison Blizzard came off the bench to make a trey.

Notre Dame battled back to cut the deficit to 27-20 at the half.  Laney Strickland and Bree Hicks each scored 5 points and Kaylyn Darden 4 as all three hit a 3-pointer.

Abbie Knapp hit a 3-pointer and scored 7 points with Hayslip scoring 4 points on a triple and a free throw.

But the Lady Bobcats extended the lead to 42-31 in the third quarter as Knapp scored 10 points while Ava Abrams added one of Green’s eight 3-pointers in the game.

Darden had 7 points including a pair of 3-pointers.

The Lady Titans outscored Green 23-15 in the fourth quarter as Hicks drained three 3-pointers, Strickland had a trifecta and scored 7 points while Darden added 4 points.

But the Lady Titans were forced to foul and Green converted 10-of-14 from the foul line with Knapp making 8-of-10 free throws as she scored 10 points in the quarter.

Elizabeth McBee hit a 3-pointer and both she and Abrams were 1-of-2 at the line.

Knapp led Green with a game-high 29 points and Hayslip scored 12.

Stickland and Hicks scored 16 points each and Darden 15 for Notre Dame (7-4, 0-1)
