Ironton Invitational Results: Ironton Boys Finish 1st; Fairland Girls Take Top Place

IRONTON — The Ironton Fighting Tigers proved to be good hosts and bad hosts.

Ironton always treats teams who attend their invitational meet well, but on Saturday they proved they can be a bad host as they won the 72nd Ironton Invitational track meet.

Ironton finished with 179 points with the Fairland Dragons second at 156.5 points. The Raceland Rams were third at 139.5 followed by the Coal Grove Hornets with 18 and TriState Homeschool Athletics with 7 points.

The Fighting Tigers’ Josh Johnson led the winners as he won the 200 meters with a snappy time of 22.74 time.

“He can motor. He can really motor,” said Ironton coach Greg Cronacher. “Some of our younger guys stepped up and did some good things.”

Jack Whaley won the 400 at 53.76 seconds while Logan Duvendeck won the 1600 meters at 5:06.72 and the 3200 with an 11:06.42 clocking.

Cody Estep won the 300-meter hurdles at 46.30 seconds while Tyler Carmon cleared 6-feet to win the high jump and Mason Wheeler heaved the shot put 45-8 to take first place.

Ironton’s 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams both took first place.

Coal Grove Hornets Kaden Murphy won the 100 meters at 11.3 and was second in the 200 meters at 23.41.

Fairland Dragons’ Conner Black won the pole vault as he cleared 12 feet and the 4x800 relay won with a 9:30.43 time.

In the girls’ meet, Fairland used its depth to win with 151.5 points. Huntington was second at 116.5, 3 followed by Ironton with 110, Coal Grove 67, Raceland 51,, Ironton St. Joseph 29 and Tri-State Homeschool Athletics 5.

The Lady Dragons’ Molly Dunlap was the team’s lone winner as she leaped 14-4.25 to win the long jump. Dunlap was also second in the 200 meters (28.03), the 100 hurdles (17.57) and 300 hurdles (50.26).

Also finishing second for Fairland were Jade D’Angelo in the 100 meters (14.22) and Bailey Russell in the 1600 meters (5:51.92) and 3200 (13:29.83), and Avery Byers threw 93-7 in the discus.

Fairland’s 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 were all second.

Ironton’s Tiyeh Brown ran a 14.17 to win the 100 meters while Marlena McCown with the 1600 meters at 5:37.01 and the 3200 meters at 12:22.03.

Ironton won the 4x100 relay at 55.79 seconds and the 4x800 relay at 13:17.20.

St. Joseph Lady Flyers Addison Murray won the 400 meters with a 1:07.79 clocking.

Coal Grove’s Isabelle Wynn threw the discus 104-7 to win that event , Alexis Best tossed the shot put 31-4 to take first place and Rylie Myers cleared 4-6 to win the high jump.
