Peters, Werner key Eastern in win over Flyers

IRONTON — The St. Joseph Flyers didn’t just go cold, they went stone cold.

Trailing Beaver Eastern by 12 points at halftime, the Flyers only scored 13 points in the second half in a 66-29 loss to the Eagles on Tuesday.

Eastern took a 21-12 first quarter lead as Aiden Werner scored 7 points and Eric Manley 6.

Eli Whaley scored 11 of the Flyers 12 points in the quarter.

The Eagles really pulled away in the final 3 minutes of the second with a 10-2 run. Webb got the scoring spree kicked off with a fall away 3-pointer from the corner and Werner followed a trey from the same spot.

Manley hit his first free throw but missed his second. But Leist pulled in the rebound and the ball found its way to Peters and the senior finished off the run with a shot from behind the arc to send Eastern into the locker room with a 40-18 lead.

Whaley led the Flyers with 12 pints. Zane Dressel had 5 rebounds and Barrett Waginger came up with 6 steals.

The Eagles had three players in double figures as Manley scored 14, Werner 13 and Carson Peters 11.
