Flyers shut out Bulldogs behind Lyons hat trick (video interview)

IRONTON — When the other team doesn’t score, you don’t lose too many.
The St. Joseph Flyers got another shutout soccer win on Wednesday by blanking the Lawrence County (Ky.) Bulldogs 4-0.
Flyers goalkeeper Beckham Waginger registered his fifth shutout as he had 7 saves in keeping the ball out of the net.
St. Joseph (9-3-1) took a 1-0 lead with 15:26 on the first half clock when Barrett Waginger scored from the backside of the defense off a touch pass assist in the box from Carson Lyons.
Lyons scored with 6:14 left in the half thanks to an assist from Jack Whaley on a crossing pass from the left side.
Lyons made it 3-0 with an unassisted goal at the 3:33 mark, sending a rebound back into the net after the goalie made a head save.
In the second half, Lyons scored another unassisted rebound goal with 20:52 left in the half to give him a hat trick scoring performance.
Goalkeeper Cole Robinette had 14 saves for Lawrence County (7-8).
The Flyers took 30 shots with 18 on goal, had 4 corner kicks and 4 fouls.
The Bulldogs took 15 shots with 7 on goal, no corner kicks and 5 fouls.
St. Joseph visits Boyd County at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
