Flyers blank Western ahead of SOC showdown

LATHAM — The St. Joseph Flyers are putting a silencer on opposing offenses.

For the second straight game, the Flyers held an opponent without taking a shot in a 10-0 Southern Ohio Conference-1 over the Western Indians on Thursday.

St. Joseph (7-2-1, 4-01) took 42 shots with 28 on goal. The Flyers Beckham Waginger, Peyton Ford and Eli Whaley shared the goalkeeping duties.

Carson Lyons didn’t have any trouble getting shots or making shots. Lyons recorded a glut as he scored 5 goals.

The Flyers took a 1-0 lead when Barrett Waginger scored off a long through ball assist from Carson Lyons with 34:21 on the clock.

Jack Whaley got the next goal just 21 seconds later as he took a through ball from Lyons and it was 2-0.

After 2 assists, Lyons scored the next goal with 33:04 on the clock as he got an entry pass assist in the box from Blake Medinger.

Barrett Waginger scored with 29:05 on the clock on a crossing pass assist from the right side by Jack Whaley.

Lyons scored again with 24:42 left in the half as he got an unassisted rebound goal.

Lyons made his third as he scored the first goal of the second half off a crossing pass from the right side by Jack Whaley.

Lyons got his fourth goal by scoring unassisted off a turnover.

With 18:30 to play, Lyons racked up his glut as he scored a fifth goal on a header off a crossing pass from Medinger.

Ian Whaley scored his second career goal with*;54 to go off a crossing assist from Sophia Rowe.

The final goal came with 25 seconds left as Gus Listerman scored an unassisted goal off a turnover.

Goalkeeper Alex Stephenson had 16 saves for Western (2-8-1, 0-6).

The Flyers host Lucasville Valley Monday at 5:30 p.m. in a battle for first place in the SOC-1.
