Lady Vikings get total effort to beat Lady Hornets

AID — This was one of those days when everything was working.

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings put together a total team effort with all facets working as they blanked the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 15-0 in a run rule 5-inning non-league game on Tuesday.

“Our girls played a great game against a good Coal Grove team,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “We got great pitching against some really good hitters and then our girls hit the ball well throughout our lineup.”

Brenna Tibbs and Addy Hawk took care of the pitching as they combined for a no-hitter. Tibbs fanned seven and walked four while Hawk struck out three and didn’t issue a walk.

The Lady Vikings banged out 13 hits against the Lady Hornets (1-4). Tibbs was 3-4 with two doubles and a run batted in, Maci Bland 2-3 with a four RBI, Marley Ferguson 2-4 with a three-run homer, Kaycee Thompson 2-3 with a double, Lydia Fields 1-1 with an RBI, Addi Ridenour 1-2 with a double and three RBI, Lydia Saunders 1-2, and Addi Ridenour 1-2 with a double and three runs batted in.

The Lady Vikings (4-0) didn’t was time scoring as they put up three runs in the first inning.

Maci Bland walked and Marley Ferguson unloaded a two-run homer. Kaycee Thompson walked and scored when Natalie Simpson reached on an error.

The lead went to 7-0 in the second inning.

Lydia Saunders got a one-out hit, Tibbs doubled and Bland reached as Saunders scored. TIbbs scored on a wild pitch.

Ferguson reached on an error and Thompson belted a double. Ferguson scored when a third strike got away from the catcher.

Addi Ridenour was hit by a pitch, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on a hit by Tibbs in the third inning and the Lady Vikings scored twice. Tibbs stole second and scored on a hit by Bland.

Symmes Valley put the game out of reach with a six-run rally in the fourth.

Alyssa Waugh was hit by a pitch, Simpson walked, Hawk singled and Ridenour slugged a bases clearing double.

Saunders was hit by a pitch and TIbbs, Bland and Ferguson all singled.
