With just three weeks remaining in the 2025 football regular season, it’s time to start talking postseason.
And with that in mind, it's time to take an early look at where our coverage teams could possibly finish in their respective regions.
Keep in mind, a lot of things are going to happen between now and the final snap of week 10.
When looking at the computer ratings and remaining schedules, even the general football fan can assume some teams have "unofficially" locked themselves into a playoff spot. Now by the end of week 9, things will begin to become more clearer and become more official.
If you would like read up on how the OHSAA's Harbin Computer Rankings System works, click here.
For this forecast, our panel of high school football contributors have listed what we project to unfold over the course of the final weeks of the regular season. And for added measure, we have also added their remaining games and hypotheticals for some teams if they are to win or lose a particular game down the stretch.
Note: Teams are listed according to the current standings in the region, based on Joe Eitel's website. Our panel has taken the top 12 teams and other teams who we feel have the best chance at a playoff spot and listed a projected a final number, a final seed, and their remaining games.
Last season, our panel had mixed success. Overall, there were just 3 correct finishes predicted out of the 16 qualifying teams. The panel did correctly the first 3 seeds and correctly predicted the final 5 of the 8 teams that finished in the top 8, just not in order. So this just goes to show that our football forecasts can be as useless as a weather forecasts or we need to stop letting the dog make 50/50 picks.
(1) Rock Hill Redmen
Current Record: 6-1
Projected Final Record: 9-1 or 8-2
Projected Final Harbin Number: 16.2267 (win over Coal Grove)
Projected Finish: 3rd
Projected Final Harbin Number: 12.5949 (loss to Coal Grove)
Projected Finish: 5th
Remaining Games: vs. Portsmouth, at Chesapeake, vs. Coal Grove
The Redmen can earn a bye in week 11 if they win out. A loss to Coal Grove would make fall down to 5th, which means they lose the bye, but still get to play at home week 11.
(2) St Bernard-Elmwood Place Titans
Current Record: 6-1
Projected Final Record: 9-1
Projected Final Harbin Number: 14.0520
Projected Finish: 5th
Remaining Games: at New Miami, at Miami Valley Christian Acad., vs. Cin. Lockland
The Titans should win out but they will still drop down in the rankings. Reason being that they will not get as many Level 2 points asides from a small amount from New Miami and Miami Valley Christian.
(3) Coldwater Cavaliers
Current Record: 5-2
Projected Final Record: 7-3
Projected Final Harbin Number: 15.9000
Projected Finish: 4th
Remaining Games: at New Breman, vs. Versailles, at Marion Local
Coldwater will be in the top four if they can win their next two games. The only way the could improve their spot is snapping Marion Local's win streak or a loss from one of the projected three ahead of them.
(4) Tri-Village Patriots
Current Record: 7-0
Projected Final Record: 10-0
Projected Final Harbin Number: 17.9500
Projected Finish: 2nd
Remaining Games: vs. Bradford, at Preble Shawnee, vs. Arcanum
Tri-Village shave teo big games ahead of them in the final two weeks, but they should win out. Those games against Preble Shawnee and Arcanum will also be huge point games.
(5) Summit Country Day Silver Knights
Current Record: 5-2
Projected Final Record: 6-4
Projected Final Harbin Number: 11.3755
Projected Finish: 9th
Remaining Games: vs. Roger Bacon, at Purcell Marian, vs. Cin. Hill Christian Acad.
Country Day has a couple tough games ahead of them, but should still make the postseason even if they lose two of three. If they can scratch out another win, they'll be looking at a home game in week 11.
(6) Northeastern Jets
Current Record: 6-1
Projected Final Record: 9-1 or 8-2
Projected Final Harbin Number: 18.9000 (win over Northeastern)
Projected Finish: 1st (win over Northeastern)
Projected Final Harbin Number: 12.1383 (loss to Mechanicsburg)
Projected Finish: 8th (loss to Mechanicsburg)
Remaining Games: at Fairbanks, at Mechanicsburg, vs. Triad
Northeastern has one of the largest swings in terms of where they land based on their game next week against Mechanicsburg. A win would mean the No. 1 seed while a loss could mean the No. 8 seed.
(7) Mechanicsburg Indians
Current Record: 5-2
Projected Final Record: 9-1 or 8-2
Projected Final Harbin Number: 18.7000 (win over Northeastern)
Projected Finish: 1st (win over Northeastern)
Projected Final Harbin Number: 15.0000 (loss to Northeastern)
Projected Finish: 4th (loss to Northeastern)
Remaining Games: at West Jefferson, vs. Northeastern, at West Liberty-Salem
The Indians' game against West Jefferson is a toss up this week, but out feeling is they can win it. So that put everything on the game next week against Northeastern.
(8) Portsmouth West Senators
Current Record: 4-3
Projected Final Record: 6-4
Projected Final Harbin Number: 12.2500
Projected Finish: 6th
Remaining Games: at Northwest, vs. Oak Hill, at Wheelersburg
West can lock up with 6th spot in the rankings with wins the next two weeks. They should be the favorites in those games as well.
(9) Cin. Deer Park Wildcats
Current Record: 5-2
Projected Final Record: 6-4
Projected Final Harbin Number: 11.1500
Projected Finish: 10th
Remaining Games: at Taylor, vs. Indian Hill, at Wyoming
The Wildcats will be heavy underdogs against Indian Hill and Wyoming. But even if they take losses in those two games, they should still make the postseason.
(10) Anna Rockets
Current Record: 5-2
Projected Final Record: 7-3
Projected Final Harbin Number: 12.1500
Projected Finish: 7th
Remaining Games: at Marion Local, vs. Fort Recovery, at Parkway
Anna should win their final two games, cementing them in a top 8 finish. They will be one of the more dangerous teams lurking about in the lower part of the bracket.
(11) Dayton Christian Warriors
Current Record: 4-3
Projected Final Record: 6-4
Projected Final Harbin Number: 8.6500
Projected Finish: 12th
Remaining Games: at Gamble Montessori, vs. Worthington Christian, vs. Thurgood Marshall
The Warriors should win two of their final three and comfortably finish out at the No 12 seed. But if they were to lose another game, they will be looking at staying home week 11.
(12) Blanchester Wildcats
Current Record: 3-4
Projected Final Record: 4-6
Projected Final Harbin Number: 6.8000
Projected Finish: Out
Remaining Games: at Williamsburg, vs. Bethel-Tate, vs. Talawanda
Blanchester will have a hard time the next two weeks getting wins. That will ultimately knock them out of postseason play.
(13) Covington Buccs
Current Record: 3-4
Projected Final Record: 5-5
Projected Final Harbin Number: 7.1500
Projected Finish: Out
Remaining Games: vs. Northridge, at Milton-Union, vs. Lehman Catholic
The Bucs need help. They'll need Dayton Christian to lose two of the final three games, or Lima Perry needs to lose two of three as well.
(14) Lima Perry Commodores
Current Record: 3-4
Projected Final Record: 7-3
Projected Final Harbin Number: 9.2500
Projected Finish: 11th
Remaining Games: at Waynesfield-Goshen, at Elgin, vs. Morral Ridgedale
Perry could be the wildcard at the bottom of the region. They are going to be underdogs against Elgin. So a win against Elgin gets them in the playoffs. A loss knocks them out.
