FRANKLIN FURNACE — If you went to the race track and bet a trifecta, it would be smart to include Eli Whaley.

If you were just straight betting the race, go with the Green Bobcats.

Green overcame an outstanding shooting performance by St. Joseph junior guard Eli Whaley to rally for a 72-63 Southern Ohio Conference-1 win on Friday.

Whaley scored a career high 32 points as he made eight 3-point goals.

Whaley scored 12 points in the first quarter — all on 3-pointers — as the Flyers took a 16-12 first quarter lead.

Gabe Blevins scored 10 of Green’s points.

Whaley had three more trifectas in the second quarter and scored 11 of the Flyers’ 21 points while Barrett Waginger had 6 points including 4 of 4 at the foul line and the lead was 37-33.

Blevins had 5 more points while Jon Knapp hit a 3-pointer and Uriah Satterfield had 4 points.

Whaley was at it again in the third quarter as he scored 9 points, but Knapp had 8 points while Brennan Rennison, Blevins and Satterfield added baskets as Green got within 48-47.

Green outscored St Joseph 25-15 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

The Bobcats were 9 of 15 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and 22 of 28 for the game.

Jacob Sampson scored 7 points with 4 coming from the foul line. Knapp was 3 of 5 at the line and Noah McMackin 3 of 4.

Carson Willis scored all 13 of his points in the quarter for the Flyers (9-12, 6-4) before fouling out.

Blevins scored 19 points and Knapp 18 as eight different players scored for the Bobcats (12-10, 8-2).

Whaley was joined in double figures by Willis who had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
