Huge scoring efforts by Whaley, Waginger give Flyers win over Tigers

IRONTON — The St. Joseph Flyers resorted to some B&E to beat New Boston.
B and E were Barrett Waginger and Eli Whaley who combined for 44 points as they broke into the New Boston Tigers defense and helped the Flyers steal a 71-37 Southern Ohio Conference-1 win on Friday.
The Flyers were dominant on the glass as Beckham Waginger had 8 rebounds while Carter Johnson and Barrett Waginger grabbed 7 each. Barrett Waginger had 3 assists with Beckham Waginger and Whaley getting 2 each.
The Flyers took a 16-10 first quarter lead as Barrett Waginger scored 9 points including a pair of 3-pointers.
Eli Whaley went to work in the second quarter and hit a trifecta and went 4 of 4 from the line as he scored 9 points and the lead was 31-22 at the half.
Wyatt McNeil hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter for the Tigers.
St. Joseph (8-10, 5-3) exploded in the third quarter and outscored New Boston 25-6 to build a 56-28 cushion.
Beckham Waginger hit a triple and scored 7 points, Barrett Waginger had a 3-pointer and scored 7 points while Carson Willis had 5 points for the Flyers.
Barrett Waginger scored 5 points and Whaley4 as the Flyers began to empty the bench.
McNeil scored 7 of the 9 New Boston points in the quarter.
McNeil had 16 points for New Boston (5-16, 1-7).
