Big games from Issacs, Layne help Lady Panthers knock off Blue Angels

CHESAPEAKE — Abbey Isaacs was putting them up and pulling them down.
Isaacs scored 20 points and hauled down 17 rebounds as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers beat the Gallia Academy Blue Angels 57-49 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Isaacs got plenty of offensive help as Ava Layne scoring a game-high 25 points for the Lady Panthers (3-1, 1-1).
Mallory Petro scored 19 points and Ryen Nunn had 12 points for Gallia Academy (0-3, 0-2).
Chesapeake took a 12-7 first quarter lead as Ciera Nichols and Layne had 4 points each.
Isaacs hit a 3-pointer as she and Layne scored 8 points each in the second quarter as Chesapeake extended its lead to 32-21 at the half.
Nunn scored 5 points while Aspen Barnes Chloe Bennett each hit a 3-pointers for the Blue Angels.
The lead grew to 43-29 in the third quarter as Layne and Isaacs combined for all of Chesapeake’s 11 points.
In the fourth quarter, Petro scored 11 points and Bennett hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points as Gallia Academy outscored Chesapeake 20-14.
Layne had 7 more points, Isaacs hit a trey and scored 5 points and K.J. Collins added a basket for the Lady Panthers’ 14 points in the quarter.
