Kazee's 28 leads Panthers to win over Musketeers

CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Panthers’ offense doubled down.

The Panthers had four players in double figures as they stopped the Greenup County Musketeers 75-66 on Saturday.

Maddox Kazee led the scoring with a game-high 28 points. Philip Thacker had 14 points, Kaden Perkins 13 and Karson Frecka 11 for the Panthers.

Chesapeake (6-1) took a 22-19 first quarter lead as Kazee scored 9 points, Thacker hit a 3-pointer and Perkins added 4 points.

Greenup County (5-5) stayed close as Camryn Chaffins, Hunter Holbrook and Gavin Roy scored 5 points each.

The Panthers opened up a 39-28 lead at halftime as they held Greenup to just 9 points in the second quarter.

Kazee drained a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points in the quarter.

Greenup rallied in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 54-49 as Kasey Gammon hit a 3-pointer and scored 7 points while Chaffins and Bradley Adkins got 5 points apiece.

Perkins and Kazee combined for 9 of the Panthers 15 points.

In the fourth quarter, Greenup was forced to foul and the Panthers responded by converting 13 of 16 free throw attempts. Perkins was 4 of 4, Kazee 5 of 6, Thacker 3 of 4 and Frecka was 1 of 2.

Keiron Jenkins hit a pair of 3-pointers and Roy had a trey and scored 5 points for the Musketeers in the quarter.

Gammon had 19 points for Greenup.
