Flyers can't overcome cold-shooting 1st quarter

PIKETON — There are cold starts, and then there are those direct from the freezer.

The Flyers scored only one point in the first quarter and battled back to within a point before falling to the Piketon Redstreaks 47-42 on Tuesday.

Konner Clemmons hit a 3-pointer as he scored 5 points with Jace Ritchie and Bo Henry getting 4 each as the Redstreaks took a 14-1 lead.

A free throw by Carson Willis was all the scoring St. Joseph could muster in the first quarter.

Willis scored 6 points and Barrett Waginger 4 as the Flyers bounced back in the second quarter and cut the deficit to 24-16.

The Flyers came out in the third quarter and cut the lead to just one point as Barrett Waginger hit a 3-pointer and scored 13 of the Flyers 16 points in the third quarter Ritchie and Treven Shanks combined for all 9 Piketon points.

In the fourth quarter, Ritchie scored 7 points as he converted 5 of 6 free throws and Luke Gallion hit a 3-pointer as Piketon held on to win.

Beckham Waginger and Barrett Waginger each hit 3- pointers while Zane Dressel and Willis had baskets in the fourth quarter

Barrett Waginger had a game-high 21 points to go with 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Beckham Waginger had 8 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. While Willis scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.

Piketon (6-4) was led by Ritchie with 20 points.
