Scoring trio leads Lady Bobcats past Lady Titans for key SOC win

PORTSMOUTH — Just seven players did all the scoring in Monday's clash between the Green Lady Bobcats and the Notre Dame Lady Titans.

But in the end, it was the trio of Lady Bobcat scorers that out paced Notre Dame's to earn a 43-32 win and stay undefeated in the Southern Ohio Conference.

Junior Abbie Knapp lead all scorers with 20 points and sank 10-of-12 free throws. Elizabeth McBee added 13 points and Laney Strickland finished with 10 and 5 rebounds.

It was all Lady Bobcats in the first quarter, with Knapp hitting a pair of 3-pointers to help Green open up a 14-4 lead.

Green continued to control the game in the second, outscoring the Lady Titans 10-5.

During the quarter, Ava Abrams hit twice from behind the arc and Laney Strickland scored a pair of baskets to help the Lady Bobcats take a 24-9 lead into the locker room.

The Lady Titans got 7of their 9 first half points from Jaysa Bryant, who hit two first-quarter field goals and went 3-of-4 from the foul line in the second period.

In the third, the teams' battled even with both teams netting 8 points each.

The Lady Titans managed to make a run in the fourth, cutting Green's lead down to 36-28 following a triple from Audrey Bach.

But that would be as close as Notre Dame would get.

Green would pull away largely in part to Knapp, who went to the foul line on four different occasions and convert 6-of-8 in the final frame.

Bryant finished with 20 points to lead the Notre Dame. Sophie Phillips finished with 5 points, Alayla Soard added in 4 points and Bach chipped in 3.

The win moves the Lady Bobcats record to 6-1 overall and to 3-0 in the SOC I. Notre Dame was playing its opening SOC I game and falls to 5-2 overall on the season.

The win was also marks Green's third consecutive over the Lady Titans.

Green returns to the hardwood on Saturday when they travel the Bluegrass State to face Greenup County. Tip-off is set for 4:30 P.M.
