IRONTON — Simply put, Chesapeake's Panthers overwhelmed Lincoln County's.
That's because, in the final contest of Saturday night's annual Ironton Classic, Chesapeake scored the game's opening 33 points — and coasted to an easy 64-17 boys basketball blowout over Lincoln County (W. Va.) inside Ironton's Conley Center.
That's right.
The Ohio Panthers put it on their West Virginia namesake, amassing 25 points apiece in each of the opening two periods — and pitching a shutout in the first.
Lincoln County finally scored with five minutes and 40 seconds remaining in the second stanza, as Kam Porter posted a pair of baskets and Hayden Davis dropped in one.
With the Ohio High School Athletic Association's running-clock rule in effect for the entire second half, Chesapeake tripled up winless Lincoln 9-3 in the third — as Davis had another field goal and Eli Callahan split a pair of free throws for Lincoln County.
In the fourth, Lincoln County scored eight points and Chesapeake five — as Alex Banks scored all four of his points to tie teammates Porter and Davis.
Riley Burton bucketed a field goal and Colton McCormick made a pair of free throws for the West Virginians.
For Chesapeake in the fourth, Logan Clay canned a three-pointer and Andy Chapman made his second field goal for four points.
But by then, the top Panther players had already retired to the bench for the night.
Kaden Perkins paced Chesapeake and all scorers with 18 points, including making the club's other four threes.
Maddox Kazee chipped in 17 points and Karson Frecca 16, as both scored seven field goals — and combined for all five Chesapeake made free throws (Kazee three and Frecca two) on 10 attempts.
Frecca was named the Panthers' Most Valuable Player for the game.
Philip Thacker in the first quarter, and Jon-Cooper Barker and Andrew Isaacs in the second canto, scored a basket apiece.
Chesapeake played again at Ironton's Conley Center on Tuesday night, but this time faced the host Ironton Fighting Tigers — in a key early-season Ohio Valley Conference clash.
Both teams entered the game at 4-0 overall and at 1-0 in the OVC.
