Rebels get big 2nd half point production to rally past Flyers

CROWN CITY — The St. Joseph Flyers won the first half, but the South Gallia Rebels dominated the second half.

The Flyers held a 5-point lead only to have the Rebels outscore St. Joseph 38-19 in the second half and post a 53-39 win on Tuesday. 

Barrett Waginger hit a 3-pointer and scored 7 points for the Flyers as they took a 10-5 first quarter lead.

St. Joseph maintained its lead in the second quarter and was up 20-15 as Eli Whaley drilled a 3-pointer and Waginger had 4 points for the Flyers in the second quarter.

Hayden Kemp and Dusty Mooney each hit 3-pointers for the Rebels.

But then came the third quarter as South Gallia outscored the Flyers 23-10.

Layne Wright — scoreless in the first half — had 10 points while Hunter Wright and J.J. Snyder added 4 each and the Rebels went ahead 38-30. 

Carson Willis scored all 6 of his points in the third quarter for St. Joseph (1-2).

Six different players scored for South Gallia in the fourth quarter to extend the lead.

Barrett Waginger had 13 points, 4 assists and 2 steals to pace the Flyers with Beckham Waginger scoring 9 points.

Carson Willis had 6 rebounds with Eli Whaley and Carter Johnson grabbing 4 each. Jack Whaley had 3 steals.

Snyder had 13 points and Layne Wright 12 to lead the Rebels (1-3).
