Scoring duo helps Lady Panthers open up season with win over Lady Jeeps

CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers went to AA in their season opener.
No, no Alcoholics Anonymous. It was Abbey and Ava who combined for 34 points as the Lady Panthers beat the South Webster Lady Jeeps 48-37.
Abbey Isaacs scored 20 points and Ava Layne had 14 points to spark the win.
Addi Claxon had a game-high 21 points to pace South Webster.
Claxon hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points as the Lady Jeeps took a 12-10 first quarter lead.
Isaacs scored 6 of Chesapeake’s 10 points in the quarter.
Isaacs had 5 points and Ciera Nichols had 4 points as five different players scored in the second quarter and the defense held the Lady Jeeps scoreless and Chesapeake took a 25-12 halftime lead.
The Lady Jeeps rallied to outscore Chesapeake 16-6 in the third quarter and cut the deficit to 31-28.
But Layne hit a 3-pointer and scored 9 points while Isaacs added 6 points as the Lady Panthers pulled away in the fourth quarter.
