PROCTORVILLE — During her time playing basketball for the Fairland Lady Dragons, Addison Godby has worn many hats.
She has been a point guard, a post player, a scorer, a rebounder, a defender, and much more.
Now, the 6-foot senior will make it official as a player of many hats after signing a national letter-of-intent on Thursday with the Stetson Hatters.
“They do like my versatility,. That’s actually one thing they said whenever I signed,” said Godby.
“I think they want to use me as a guard, but when I get that matchup they’ll be really excited so I can go post up. They’re planning on using me in a lot of different positions.”

Fairland Lady Dragons’ head coach Jon Buchanan understands Stetson’s interest in Godby because of her overall abilities.
“She’s as versatile as any kid we’ve had on both ends of the floor,” said Buchanan. “She could be our leading scorer and she’s definitely our best defensive player.
“She’s the table setter for everything we do. She’s in the conversation as the best player we’ve ever had here.”
Last season, Godby averaged 11.4 points a game, 7.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 3.2 steals and 1.4 blocks as Fairland went 27-3 and reached the state semifinals.
Godby shrugs off the praise and just focuses on being a piece of the puzzle.
“We’ve had so many good players and I’m just glad that I got to be a part of such a great program that has multiple kids who have went and played college,” said Godby.
“And that’s honestly the reason I’m where I am today because we’ve had all those good players to help push me and get better every practice, every game.”
Godby was recruited by several NCAA Division 2 schools plus schools like Malone, Walsh and Tiffin where some former teammates are playing.
She had a Division 1 offer from Southern Illinois but opted Stetson’s D1 opportunity.
“I just liked Stetson because of the atmosphere when I went down there. It was my first D1 offer from Sidney Moss and I just liked the team and everything,” said Godby.
“They have some bigs, they have some shooters. I think they are graduating three of their starters, so it’ll be interesting to see how it goes next year.”
Godby has been to Florida to visit her uncle and she likes the fact Stetson is only 30 minutes from the beach.
“That’s super exciting,” said Godby with a grin.
With her senior year in front of her, Godby is glad that the recruiting process is completed and she can focus on the upcoming season.
“It’s very relieving I’d say because I have that stress factor off. I can just focus on my high school season without having to worry about where I’m going because, obviously, we’re trying to win a state championship. That’s the only thing I have on my mind right now. I just want to have a good last season with my teammates,” she said.
Godby spends her free time forgetting about basketball.
“I like to shop and hang out with family and friends. I like to go boating a lot,” said Godby, who plans to major in one of the medical fields offered by Stetson.
