Flyers continue playoff prep with win over Dragons

PROCTORVILLE — Carson Lyons kept scoring and Jack Whaley kept passing.

Lyons had another haul as he scored 4 goals and Whaley continued to rack up the assists this season as he got 3 more and the St. Joseph Flyers beat the Fairland Dragons 6-1 on Monday.

Lyons scored with 18:58 on the first half clock with an assist from Whaley and it was 1-0.

Lyons got an unassisted goal 10 minutes later off of a stolen goal kick pass.

Lyons and Whaley clicked again with 4:32 left in the half as Lyons got a header off a corner kick assist by Whaley.

The lead went to 4-0 with just 1:50 left in the half as Barrett Waginger drilled a loose ball into the back of the net from 18 yards away.

St. Joseph (10-4-1) pushed the lead to 5-0 on what looked like an instant replay from earlier as Lyons scored his fourth goal on a header off of a corner kick from Whaley with 25:12 on the clock.

The Flyers final goal came with 17:48 to play as Blake Medinger scored off a cut pass assist from Mason Weber.

Kyle Salyer scored the lone goal for Fairland (4-9) off a penalty kick with 9:55 left.

Flyers’ goalkeepers Beckham Waginger and Peyton Ford combined for the win. Waginger had one save in his 40 minutes and Ford had 2 saves.

Fairland goalkeeper Patrick Montgomery had 9 saves.

St. Joseph had 12 corner kicks to one for the Dragons and 7 fouls to 2 for Fairland.

St. Joseph took 27 shots with 15 on goal. Fairland took 6 shots with 4 on goal.

The Flyers will host New Boston at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on senior night.
