Arnett goes for 5 TDs in Rams dominant win over Bulldogs

RACELAND — Science has proven that lightning does in fact strike twice in the same place. And on a rainy Friday night, the Hazard Bulldogs found out Jonah Arnett strikes five times in the same place.
Arnett scored the first five touchdowns for Raceland and the defense completely smothered the Bulldogs, as the Rams rolled to a 56-7 win at Ram Stadium.
The win was a final tune up for Raceland (4-2), as they move into district play next week when they face Fairview in Westwood. Things don't get any easier for Hazard (2-5), as they will start district play at undefeated Paintsville next week.
Right from the beginning, the Rams proved it would be a long night for the Bulldogs.
Raceland took their opening possession and marched 51-yards in just 6 plays as Arnett scored on a 16-yard cut back run for the first points of the night.
Arnett later added two more touchdown runs of 42 and 20.
The dominating offensive play was equally matched on defense and the first play from scrimmage encapsulated how the night would go.
On Hazard's first play from scrimmage, Maddox Bryant took a handoff and was met immediately with a crushing hit from Cade Coldiron off the left edge for a loss of 3 yards.
Hazard would go three-and-out and punt off to Arnett, who split a pair of tacklers and left them standing and cut back out to the far sideline and went untouched in for the score to make it 14-0 at the 7:34 mark of the first quarter.
Another three-and-out by the Bulldogs just allowed Arnett to blast off one more time. This time the senior fielded the ball off a bounce and went up the far sideline behind plenty of blockers into the end zone again untouched. Seth Morris added the extra point to make it 21-0 with 6:15 on the clock.
Raceland's rush defense would hound the Bulldogs all night, who finished with minus 19 yards on 18 carries.
Things weren't much better through the air, as the Bulldogs managed just 29 passing yards and were picked off 3 times.
Arnett was one of those defensive players that had a pick. His came on a heave attempt from Mason Hampton just 20 seconds into the second quarter. The other two interceptions came from Brigham Davidson and Bentley Baldridge.
In the second half, the Rams added to their lead. This time, others got into the act.
Jacob Waller flipped a screen pass out to Scout Wilks and Wilks took it 37 yards up the near sideline for the score.
Then Brayden King took a snap and followed his blockers on a sweep up the sideline to make it 49-0 after three quarters.
Hazard would get their lone score of the night on the ensuing kickoff, as Max Kilburn fielded the kick from his own 9 and found a seam on the first level, and raced the 91 yards needed to pay dirt to break up the shut out.
Running back Aiden Bell capped off the scoring when he took a handoff and slashed his way to the outside and went 36 yards to set the final score.
