Reed's 18 paces Blue Devils past Hornets, 65-41

COAL GROVE — Ty Reed went for a game-high 18 points, as eight different Gallia Academy players scored on the night and the Blue Devils picked up a 65-41 win over the Coal Grove Hornets in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday night.

Along with Reed's game-high scoring effort, Gabe Hammons finished with 12 points. Tripp Sola had 10 and Colson Miller netted 9 to lead the Blue Devils.

The Hornets got a pair of scorers to hit double figures in Bronson Guy with 15 points and Caden Turner with 12.

The Blue Devils outscored the Hornets 13-9 in the first quarter with Reed and Hammons leading with 4 points apiece.

Caden Turner and Bronson Guy kept Coal Grove (5-8, 1-6 OVC) close with both hitting a 3-pointer.

Gallia expanded their lead in the second quarter as Reed scored three times from the field and added a free throw for 7 points. Miller added 4 points and Sola hit from behind the arc.

Turner hit another shot from downtown, as did Braden Schug. Rylan Smith and Guy scored from the field, but the Hornets would trail 27-19 at the break.

In the third, the Blue Devils (6-7, 3-4) began to pull away as Hammons got the hot hand and scored 8 points and Ethan Rose scored a bucket and hit a triple to lead Gallia scorers in the quarter.

Five different Coal Grove players did score in the third, with Schug's triple being the top scorer in the frame, but Gallia had stretched their lead out to 44-29 after three quarters of play.

Reed added 7 more points to his total in the fourth quarter and Owens netted 6 as the Blue Devils outscored the Hornets 21-12.

Guy hit twice from behind the arc and sank a pair of free throws and Turner was a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line in the fourth for the Hornets.
