Vikings take advantage of errors to beat South Gallia

AID — The Vikings took advantage of nine errors and Austin Simpson and Jackson Fields combined to drive in 5 runs, allowing Symmes Valley to beat the South Gallia Rebels 9-3 on Wednesday evening in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
Despite getting just five hits, the Vikings made them count.
Simpson ended up with three RBIs on the day, with his first coming in the second. Then added two more on a base hit into right field to give thr Vikings a commanding 7-0 lead.
Fields also drove in a pair of runs as well, notching an RBI single in the second and scoring another on a sacrifice fly in the fifth for the Vikings final run of the game.
Bronx Carpenter went doubled and drove in a run. Tanner Thompson and Braden Hankins each had a base hit. Andy Strow had an RBI.
Gradee Holland picked up the win by pitching a complete game. Holland gave up five hits, three earned runs, and fanned seven batters on the day. Two of his final strikeouts came in the seventh, as he retired the Rebels in order to finish the game.
The Vikings broke the game wide open in the second, getting three-straight batters on via an error, and even scored a run off one of those errors. Then Fields came on and singled into left on an 0-2 pitch to give the Vikings a 4-0 lead. Carpenter followed up with a double on the first pitch and scored Simpson to make it 5-0.
The Rebels were able to muster up three runs in the fourth. Logan Saber singled to put the first run on the board. Then Noah Devine hit into a fielder's choice to score a run, and Ethan Moody singled to cut the deficit to 7-3.
Symmes Valley would add insurance runs in the bottom of the frame and another in the fifth.
The win moves the Vikings record to 13-5 overall and 6-2 in the league. South Gallia falls to 5-9 and 2-6.
