Vikings Pick Up a Pair of Wins in Rock Hill Wood Bat Classic

PEDRO —Symmes Valley got a 2-hit shutout from Gradee Holland, and Viking batters banged out 9 hits en route to a 10-0 win over the Chesapeake Panthers in 5 innings on Saturday at the Rock Hill Wooden Bat Classic.


Holland struck out 10 batters, including 3 of his final four he faced in the fifth.


The Vikings rattled off 7 runs in the bottom of the second to take control of the game. Braden Hankins started the run rally with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Then Holland recorded one of his two hits to score two more. Corn capped off the scoring by crossing home on an error.

Andy Strow singled home Tanner Thompson in the bottom of the fifth to give the Vikings the run-rule win.


The Panthers threatened to score in the top of the fifth, as Peyton Muncy reached on a base hit, then Dylan White walked and later Casey Barker walked to load the bases with two outs.


But Holland recorded his final strikeout of the day to end the threat.


Will Jones finished 2-2 and an RBI, Asher Maynard and Holland each went 2-3 to lead the Vikings at the plate.

Game One

Tanner Corn fanned 12 batters, including 4 of the final 6 he faced to help the Vikings hold on to beat the Rock Hill Redmen 2-1 on Friday night.


The Vikings took the lead in the third when Tanner Thompson scored on an error.


In the fourth, Gradee Holland was able to reach base on a dropped third strike, move around and score by stealing home to make it 2-0.


The Redmen cut the lead in half in the sixth, as Dawson Lewis singled to lead off the inning, then Braylon McClellan drove Lewis in on a basehit to left field.


Corn was able to retire the next two batters to get out of the inning and leave a Rock Hill runner stranded at third.
