AID — Tanner Corn and Will Jones combined for five runs batted in and pitcher Braden Hankins held the Blue Devils in check to help the Vikings down Gallia Academy 11-4 on Wednesday.

The Vikings managed just seven hits, but made them count when they needed them to.

Corn finished 1-of-3 at the plate with three RBIs to pace the offense. Jones went 2-4 and drove in two runs. Andy Strow and Asher Maynard each had a hit and an RBI. Bronx Carpenter also had a hit for Symmes Valley (15-10).

Hankins went the distance on the mound, allowing just 3 earned runs, seven hits and striking out two to earn the win. The senior retired six of his final eight batters to finish off the game.

Hankins also helped himself out at the plate with an RBI single in the fourth to help the Vikings score four runs in the inning.

The Blue Devils (10-12) took the lead in the first when Maddux Delaney doubled to left with one out to make it 2-0.

Symmes Valley responded with a run in the bottom half of the frame. Corn laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Tanner Thompson and cut the deficit to one.

The Vikings began to distance themselves from Gallia on the scoreboard in the third, scoring three runs during a two out rally.

Thompson led off the inning with a walk. Then later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game up. Corn scored on a walk with the bases loaded. Then Maynard singled back up the middle to put the Vikings ahead 4-2.

Gallia Academy would tie the game up in the top of the fourth. Rees Toler singled and Chase Kinder drew a walk. Then Matthew Foster drilled an 0-1 pitch into center for a triple to clear the bases.

But in the bottom of the fourth, the Vikings took the lead for good.

Carpenter singled to lead off the inning and later scored on an error. Hankins followed with his RBI single. Then Jones scored from third on a balk by the pitcher to make it 7-4.

Jones helped the Vikings extend their lead in the fifth with a single to score two more runs and put the Vikings up 9-4 at that point. Then Corn followed up later with a single of his own to score two more and round out the final score.

Logen Drummond took the loss for the Blue Devils.

Maddux Delaney led the Blue Devils at the plate, going 2-3 including a double and two RBIs. Matthew Foster had a hit and an RBI. Tylar Young, Beckett Camden, Rees Toler and Chase Kinder each collected a hit.
