Highlights from the Panthers win over the Flyers

CHILLICOTHE — Walks can haunt, as can errors.

Nine walks and three inopportune errors by Saint Joseph opened the door for Southeastern to rally back and beat Flyers 6-5 on Thursday evening.

Beckham Waginger doubled twice and an RBI and Wes Neal went 2-4 with 2 RBIs to lead the Flyers offensively. Blake Medinger doubled, and Landon Rowe, Carson Willis, and Carson Lyons each had a hit.

The miscues caught up with the Flyers in the third, when Southeastern (12-10) got two runners on to begin the inning following a walk and an error that would've given the Flyers their first out of the inning.

Coleton Baxter scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2, then Willis' struckout the next batter.

The error would prove costly, as Joey Pfeifer got a hold of a 1-1 pitch and drove it over the left field fence to tie the game at 4-all.

The Flyers took the lead back in the top of the fourth, as Rowe led off the inning with a single and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mason Weber. Waginger drew a walk before Evan Aldridge grounded out on a fielder's choice to move Rowe over.

Rowe scored when Wes Neal's hit to third was mishandled for an error to give the Flyers (10-6) a 5-4 lead.

But Saint Joseph couldn't hold the lead in the bottom of the frame, as another walk and a throwing error on a steal allowed Lane Williams to reach third with one out. Williams scored on a pass ball to even the score again.

The Flyers appeared to have some last inning magic in the works. With two outs, Willis singled into right and Lyons drew a walk. But Pfeifer was able to retire the next batter and pick up the save.

The Flyers jumped out early to a 3-0 lead in the first, getting a base hit from Waginger to score the games' first run. Then Weber scored on a double steal and Neal singled in a run to give the Flyers an early advantage.

But Southeastern answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, after Lane Williams singled. The senior made his way third after a passed ball and wild pitch, and then stole home to make it 3-1.

Pfeifer paced the Panthers with his homer and 2 RBIs. The rest of Southeastern's three hits came from Lane Williams, Carson McWhorter and Landon Welch.

Brayden Burns earned the win for the Panthers. Waginger took the loss for the Flyers.

The Flyers will finish out the regular season against Paint Valley on Monday and Saint Patrick, Ky. on Tuesday before their tournament match up with Leesburg Fairfield on Friday.
