SOUTH POINT — Looking at the stat sheet, Rock Hill had three turnovers and 152 yards in penalties, numbers that would normally spell defeat.

But these Redmen are resilient and they overcame all their mistakes to beat the South Point Pointers 23-15 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.

Quarterback Dallin Cox ran 6 times for 29 yards and a touchdown and also completed 10 of 15 passes for 134 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Kelan Davidson carried 13 times for 96 yards while Braylon McClelland caught 3 passes for 95 yards and a score.

South Point (2-3, 0-1) was limited to 182 total yards including just 45 net yards rushing after two bad snaps led to a minus 27 yards.

Quarterback K.C. McLain was 11 of 23 for 122 yards with three interceptions. Ethan Hunt was 4 of 5 passing for 15 yards.

South Point scored on its second possession of the game with a 60-yard, 9-play drive bolstered by a pass interference penalty. McLain passed 6 yards to Vance for the score with 5:31 on the clock and it was 6-0. Logan McFann added the conversion.

Rock Hill (4-1, 2-0) came right back with a 5-play drive that covered 55 yards. Cole hit McClellan for 15 yards and then found Cash Lyons for a 30-yard scoring play. The conversion kick failed.

Rock Hill took a 13-7 halftime lead on the clutch play by McClellan. Cox threw up a pass that McClellan jumped above the defensive back and caught one-handed at about the 37, then turned and outran the Pointers to the end zone and it was to complete a 75-yard pass play.

Cameron Howard kicked the conversion and it was 13-7 with 6:11 left in the half.

The Redmen came out in the second half and drove to the 5-yard line only to have the drive stall. Howard was called upon to attempt a field goal and he connected on a 22-yarder and it was 16-7 with 6 minutes left in the quarter.

Rock Hill came up with an interception at their own 12-yard line to halt a South Point drive. But on the ensuing play, Noah Fahey tackled Cox in the end zone for a safety and the lead was now 16-9 at the 2:18 mark.

Following the free kick, the Pointers had the ball at the Rock Hill 44. It took 7 plays for the Pointer stop score as Vance shook free on a 23-yard run for the touchdown with 11:18 to play. The conversion failed and the Redmen lead was 16-15.

South Point put together another drive to the Rock Hill 13 but turned the ball over on downs.

Rock Hill created some breathing room as Davidson ran 37 yards to the South Point 28. After a sot one-yard gain, Cox kept the ball a bootleg and went 27 yards for the touchdown.

Howard’s conversion kick made it 23-15 with 3:17 left.

The Pointers next possession ended with a fourth down sack and the Redmen ran out the clock.

This Friday, Rock Hill will host Cincinnati Purcell Marian while South Point hosts Fairland.
